STEM education focuses on academic programs that combine science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in meaningful, hands-on, inquiry-based learning environments. Students are immersed in learning activities that incorporate these concepts as they foster 21st Century skills, such as critical thinking, information literacy, and collaboration and investigate solutions to real-world problems. STEM education plays a critical role in the personal success of students and the building of our economic, environmental, and technological future. A solid foundation in STEM education helps to prepare students for the competitive global workforce and the demands of the 21st Century. While our school is STEM– focused, students continue to develop literacy skills, frequently writing and utilizing informational text related to STEM topics. STEM topics are integrated into all subject areas including social studies, art, music, and P.E.
Our new facilities allow us to provide our students with the latest technologies, including school-wide Wi-Fi and a fully equipped Paxton-Patterson Action Lab. Here, lessons are computer-based, hands-on, open-ended, and focus on problem solving.
